ACIA: A Model of Cognitive Independence

ACIA: A Model of Cognitive Independence

Dr Paige Williams

ABSTRACT
ACIA is an original model I have developed to describe purposeful human movement: how people and human systems perceive what is happening, develop genuine options, author direction, put that direction into action and learn from what follows. The model brings together three layers — Stages, Gateways and Unlocks — to make visible not only how movement occurs, but where it becomes constrained and what may help it move again. At its foundation is Cognitive Independence: Awareness, Agency and Accountability working together to support movement that remains perceptive, authored and capable of learning from experience.
